How do I know which battery to order for my hearing aid?

It’s easy to determine what type of battery you need. Hearing aid batteries have standardized numbers and color codes. They are (Blue) 675, (Orange) 13, (Brown) 312, and (Yellow) 10.

Each hearing aid battery has a standardized number and color code. We will show you which battery you need.

Depending on a variety of factors including battery size, your hearing aid model, level of hearing loss, and environmental factors, hearing aid batteries typically last about 5-7 days. Generally speaking, the more use your hearing aid gets, the sooner it needs to be recharged.

Hearing aids require significant power to perform the variety of functions that keep you hearing better. Unlike a clock which uses little power to keep ticking, the hearing aid is constantly scanning background noise, amplifying sounds, and adjusting to the different environments which uses substantially more battery power.

Keep about eight to ten batteries on hand, and order new ones when you have four or more left. Keep your batteries rotated, using the older ones first. Allow extra time for shipping! When it’s time to purchase new hearing aid batteries, our staff will be happy to help. Just ask!

The most convenient place is wherever you store your hearing aids at night while you’re sleeping—maybe your nightstand drawer or bedside table. If you choose to keep them elsewhere, choose a cool, dark, location where they won’t be exposed to warm sunlight. In addition, keep spare batteries with you in your carrying case.

Do not store hearing aid batteries in the bathroom, refrigerator, or garage. Condensation, extreme temperatures, and moisture will harm your batteries.

The two factors that determine hearing aid cost are features and function. Just like choosing a car or building a house, the more features you want and the better performance necessary, the more expensive your devices will be.

A person who leads and active lifestyle, who travels to a variety of settings, and who needs a nearly-invisible hearing aid will need a model that performs better and likely costs more than other models. They may need dual microphones, which is a feature many of our clients have been quite satisfied with. Someone who stays at home and has little interaction with noise will not need a high-performance model. This is why we ask so many questions about your lifestyle; we want to match you with the right model.

Like most technology in this world, the price you pay depends on which features and functionality you need. In addition to your preferences, we have to take into consideration any recommendations from your healthcare professional.

We have a great trial and refund policy for all our hearing aids, usually 30 days from the date of purchase. During this period, you can try out your hearing aids or come back for any fitting adjustments. If you’re not happy with your purchase for any reason we will refund your hearing aids during the trial period (minus a small fitting/restocking fee).

Diagnostic evaluations are usually covered if a physician or doctor orders them to diagnose a medical condition or develop a treatment plan for a medical condition. But health insurance companies usually do not cover hearing aids.

Many folks have Medicare, which also does not cover hearing aids for adults. But Medicare will cover one type of hearing assistance device called a bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA). Although technically a hearing device, Medicare considers it a prosthetic device and not a traditional hearing aid, so it is covered.

For eligible children and young adults ages 21 and under, Medicaid will pay for the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss, including hearing aids, under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) service. Also, children may be covered by their state’s early intervention program or State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

If you need help paying for a hearing aid, some nonprofit organizations provide financial assistance, while others may help provide used or refurbished hearing aids.
